The beautiful foothills south of Calgary are officially referred to as the Municipal District of Foothills No. 31. This rural municipality is located just south of Calgary and is one of the fastest growing districts in the province. It spans over 1,400 square miles and provides amazing views of the Rocky Mountains. It consists of rich grasslands and rolling hills. The regions communities include Okotoks, High River, Turner Valley, Black Diamond, Longview, Nanton, Vulcan, Cayley, Blackie and the Eden Valley Indian Reserve. The district recently celebrated its centennial in 2004. As of the 2006 census, the Foothills had a total population of 19,736.
